Chanukah
Chanukah, the Festival of Lights, celebrates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem after the Maccabean victory over the Seleucid Empire. The eight-day festival commemorates the miracle of the oil that burned for eight days when there was only enough for one.

Significance
Chanukah celebrates religious freedom and the triumph of faith over oppression. The lighting of the menorah publicizes the miracle and serves as a reminder of God's protection. The holiday also emphasizes the importance of religious identity and perseverance.

Frequently Asked Questions About Chanukah
Three blessings are recited on the first night: the blessing over the candles (Lehadlik Ner), the blessing for the miracles (She'asah Nisim), and the Shehecheyanu (for reaching this season). On subsequent nights, only the first two blessings are said.
Al Hanissim ('For the Miracles') is a special paragraph added to the Amidah prayer and Birkat Hamazon (Grace After Meals) throughout Chanukah. It thanks God for the miracles performed for the Maccabees and the miracle of the oil.
Full Hallel is recited every day of Chanukah, unlike other holidays where half Hallel may be said. This is because each day of Chanukah commemorates a separate miracle, making each day independently significant.
Chanukah candles are traditionally lit at nightfall (approximately 25-30 minutes after sunset), though some light at sunset. On Friday, candles are lit before Shabbat candles, and on Saturday night, after Havdalah. The candles should burn for at least 30 minutes after nightfall.
