About the Hebrew Calendar
The Hebrew calendar is a lunisolar calendar used for Jewish religious observances. It determines the dates for Jewish holidays, Torah readings, and other religious events. The calendar is based on both the lunar cycle (months) and the solar cycle (years).
A regular Hebrew year has 12 months, while a leap year (occurring 7 times in a 19-year cycle) has 13 months with an additional month called Adar II. This keeps the calendar aligned with the seasons.
Hebrew dates begin at sunset, so a Hebrew day actually starts the evening before. For example, Shabbat begins Friday at sunset and ends Saturday at nightfall.
