About the Torah
The Torah (תורה), also known as the Five Books of Moses or the Pentateuch, is the most sacred text in Judaism. It contains 187 chapters, 5,845 verses, and 304,805 letters, written on a parchment scroll by a trained scribe (sofer).
The Torah is read publicly in synagogues on Mondays, Thursdays, Shabbat, and holidays. The entire Torah is completed in an annual cycle, celebrated on Simchat Torah.
