Rosh Chodesh Sivan

Sivan is the month in which the Torah was given at Mount Sinai. Shavuot falls on the 6th of Sivan (6th and 7th in the diaspora). The first days of Sivan are known as the 'Three Days of Preparation' (Sheloshet Yemei Hagbalah), during which the Israelites prepared to receive the Torah. Tachanun is not recited from Rosh Chodesh through the 12th of Sivan.

Standard Rosh Chodesh prayers are recited: half Hallel, Ya'aleh V'Yavo, the Torah reading, and Musaf. The Omer counting continues, reaching its final days. The festive atmosphere builds as Shavuot approaches just five days later, and communities begin preparing for the all-night Torah study of Tikkun Leil Shavuot.
