Shushan Purim Katan 2009

Shushan Purim Katan falls on the 15th of Adar I in a Jewish leap year, corresponding to the date of Shushan Purim in Adar II. Like Purim Katan on the 14th, it is a very minor observance. Tachanun is omitted and fasting is not permitted, but there are no special readings or celebrations.

There are virtually no obligatory customs for Shushan Purim Katan beyond omitting Tachanun. Some communities mark the day with a slightly more festive meal, and the Shulchan Aruch recommends increasing in joy. It is one of the most minor days on the Jewish calendar, primarily serving as a calendrical placeholder for the actual Shushan Purim in Adar II.
