Tu B'Av 2026

Tu B'Av (the 15th of Av) is one of the most joyous days in the Jewish calendar, often called the Jewish day of love. The Talmud describes it as a day when young women of Jerusalem would dance in the vineyards wearing borrowed white garments, and young men would come to find a bride.

The Talmud lists six events that make Tu B'Av joyful: the tribes were permitted to intermarry, the tribe of Benjamin was allowed to rejoin Israel, the generation of the wilderness ceased dying, the road to Jerusalem was reopened, the dead of Betar were permitted burial, and wood-cutting for the Temple altar concluded for the season.
