Yom Yerushalayim 2017

Yom Yerushalayim (Jerusalem Day) is celebrated on the 28th of Iyar, commemorating the reunification of Jerusalem during the Six-Day War in 1967. After 19 years of Jordanian control, the Old City — including the Western Wall and the Temple Mount — was returned to Israeli sovereignty.

Many communities recite Hallel and special prayers of thanksgiving. In Jerusalem, a large march proceeds through the city streets to the Western Wall. The Israeli Chief Rabbinate declared it a minor religious holiday, and some synagogues add Al HaNissim to their prayers. The day is marked by ceremonies, concerts, and celebrations of Jewish connection to Jerusalem.
