Megillat Esther

At Night

He who thwarted the counsel of nations and frustrated the schemes of the cunning. When a wicked man arose against us, a scion of insolence from the seed of Amalek. He exalted in his wealth and dug a pit for himself, and his greatness ensnared him as a trap. He imagined in his soul to entrap and was entrapped, he sought to destroy and was swiftly destroyed.

Haman declared the enmity of his forefathers, stirring hatred of brothers against sons. And he did not remember the mercy of Saul, for in his compassion toward Agag an enemy was born. The wicked one plotted to annihilate the righteous and the impure was caught by the hands of the pure. Kindness prevailed over the error of a forefather, the wicked one added sin upon his sins. He hid in his heart the schemes of his cunning and disguised himself to do evil.

He stretched out his hand against the holy ones of God, he gave his silver to erase their memory. When Mordecai saw that wrath had gone forth and Haman’s decrees were issued in Shushan, he donned sackcloth and bound himself in mourning, he decreed a fast and sat upon the ashes. The sin of the iniquity of our forefathers. A hawk bloomed from the palm frond, the grace of Hadassah stood to awaken the sleepers.

Her eunuchs hastened to Haman to make him drink the wine of the fury of serpents. He stood in his wealth and fell in his wickedness, he made a gallows for himself and was hanged upon it. All the inhabitants of the world opened their mouths, for Haman’s lot was turned into our Purim. The righteous was delivered from the hand of the wicked, the enemy was given in place of his life. They established upon themselves to observe Purim and to rejoice every year. You saw the prayer of Mordecai and Esther, Haman and his sons you hanged upon the gallows.
