For the conductor, a psalm of the sons of Korach: Hear this, all you peoples; give ear, all inhabitants of the world: Both low and high, rich and poor together. My mouth speaks wisdom; my heart’s meditation is understanding. I will incline my ear to a parable; I will solve my riddle upon the harp. Why should I fear in days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels surrounds me? Those who trust in their wealth and boast in the multitude of their riches. No man can redeem his brother or give to God his ransom—For the redemption of their soul is costly and it ceases forever—That he should live eternally and not see the pit. For he sees that wise men die; the fool and the brutish together perish and leave their wealth to others. Their inner thought is that their houses are forever, their dwelling places for all generations; they call their lands after their own names. But man in his splendor will not endure; he is like the beasts that perish. This is their way, folly is theirs, and after them, they will delight in their words forever. Like sheep they are appointed to Sheol; death shall shepherd them; the upright shall rule over them in the morning; and their form shall waste away in Sheol, far from its lofty abode. But God will redeem my soul from the hand of Sheol, for He will take me, Selah. Do not be afraid when a man becomes rich, when the glory of his house increases. For when he dies, he will take nothing; his glory will not descend after him. For his soul, while he lives, will bless itself, and they will praise you when you do well for yourself. It shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light. Man in his splendor, yet without understanding, is like the beasts that perish. But the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their stronghold in time of trouble. And the Lord helps them and delivers them; He delivers them from the wicked and saves them, for they have taken refuge in Him.

A michtam of David: Guard me, O God, for I have taken refuge in You. I have said to the Lord, “You are my Master; I have no good besides You.” As for the holy ones who are in the land, they are the noble ones in whom is all my delight. The sorrows of those who hasten after another god shall multiply; I will not pour their libations of blood nor will I take their names upon my lips. The Lord is my allotted portion and my cup; You maintain my lot. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, my inheritance is beautiful to me. I will bless the Lord, who has counseled me; even at night, my kidneys instruct me. I have set the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore, my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; even my flesh will dwell securely. For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol, nor will You allow Your faithful one to see decay. You make known to me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
